The objective of the Hello Policy Maker! website is to encourage political awareness, understanding and respect for people's perspectives, as well as to enhance and broaden the scope of national discussion. There are two ways that people can actively participate with Hello Policy Maker! and with others across the country by submitting two types of short videos:
1.) A question that you'd like to ask a policy maker and/or 2.) A citizen-initiated video interview with a policy maker
Submission Guidelines
1.) If submitting a question for a policy maker, the video submission must have the following three items:
- At least one reason. This can be a statistic, it can be rational, or anything else that is reason-based that shows the viewer something, or backs up your reasoning. - The maximum length of run time of video, including title screen - 2 minutes. - The video must end with a question.
It is encouraged that the video have a title screen, clean audio and music. The producer, filmmaker and/or person submitting the video should have all rights obtained for all footage, including additional audio that is used.
Here are a couple of examples embedded within the executive, state rep and issues pages, within healthcare and energy.
2.) If submitting a citizen-initiated interview with a policy maker video, it should run less than 5 minutes.
Start your video with a title screen that includes the name of the person you are addressing, along with issue you are addressing.
Hello Policy Maker! is looking for rational-based questions that are thought provoking and can potentially bring more diverse points of view from the public. This website seeks to promote a regular citizen's point of view because there seems to be a widespread belief that policy makers are not carrying out the general will of the People. Hello Policy Maker! is an online film festival that seeks to highlight political concerns that are national in scope. The issues are largely based upon the current Congressional Committee structure and because of their nature are not actually inclusive of all issues and topics that may warrant discussion.
Submission format: Hello Policy Maker currently accepts only a DVD (MPEG video, Region 1 or 0) format for consideration. The festival does not accept Blu-ray submissions.
Films must be in English or with English subtitles.
Films will be accepted based upon quality, creativity and content.
All submissions must be accompanied with the proper paperwork which can be obtained at one of the links above.
